ITF calls for urgent investigation into THY 'missing crew' claims
The ITF (International Transport Workers’ Federation) is calling on international aviation authorities to investigate allegations that Turkish Airlines (THY) is playing with safety by flying airplanes with insufficient or unqualified crew in order to get around a strike by THY workers protesting at unfair sackings. ITF affiliate Turkish Civil Aviation Unions (Hava-İş) began an indefinite strike on 15 May against Turkish Airlines (THY) over the company’s alleged failure to accept any of its proposals regarding collective bargaining and its refusal to reinstate 305 sacked workers.
 
The strikers urged THY’s management to reach an agreement with the union but were prevented on the first day from protesting at Istanbul’s Atatürk Airport because of the heavy police presence. On 16 May they gathered in front of the THY headquarters, and have said they will continue to protest there each day for the duration of the strike. Read more...

Turkish Airlines Management Disregards Our Passengers Rights and Safety Flight

Dear Passengers and Public Opinion;
Turkish Airlines management has categorically refused to negotiate with the union. As a result of that, Hava-İş which representing 14 thousand of workers in Turkish Airlines Inc. will be apply strike on May, 15th, 2013 at 03:00 am (local time) for 24th term collective bargaining.
This strike is not a daily action. It is legal, democratic right guaranteed by Law No. 6358 and T.C Constitution. And according to our laws it will be an indefinite strike until the agreement provide. Read more...

STRIKE APPLICATION GUIDE

If the compromise is not provided until that date, we’re going to apply strike on May, 15th, 2013. Strike will continue until agreement provided.

1- WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN STRIKE? All the workers with employment contracts working in THY Inc. and all the workplaces affiliated to THY Inc. participate in strike. It doesn’t matter his/her status, title or duty. For THY Inc. workplaces; ground personnel, cabin crew, cockpit crew, who has fix-term contracts or permanent contracts, part-time employees, with or without union members all of them participate in strike. On the picket line until we win!

About 150 Hava-İş members and supporters sent their message of struggle at a picket and press conference on March 28, at lunch time, in front of the Ataturk International Airport, main hub of Turkish Airlines. The action was organized by the Turkish Civil Aviation Union (Hava-İş), in conjunction with the 24th period collective bargaining talks.

Unions and community groups joined the picket line formed 304 days ago to campaign for the reinstatement of unfairly dismissed 305 workers, chanting, "On the picket line until we win!" and "Rights are not handed down; it is on the street that victory is won!"

The campaign has already scored a victory against a blanket strike ban brought by the current AKP government on the demand of Turkish Airlines management. Read more...
